Packing Light: A Carry-On System That Works
Checked bags are a tax on your time. With a simple system, a carry-on covers almost any trip.
The case for travelling with only a carry-on isn't about toughing it out. It's about skipping the baggage carousel, never losing a suitcase, and moving through an airport unencumbered. The trick is a repeatable system, not heroic restraint.
Start with a color-coordinated core so everything mixes: neutral bottoms, tops that layer, one jacket that handles weather. Roll rather than fold to save space and reduce creases, and use a couple of packing cubes to keep categories separated — one for tops, one for everything else. A trip's worth of clothing compresses smaller than most people expect.
Keep toiletries in a clear pouch you never unpack between trips, so leaving is a five-minute job. Wear your bulkiest shoes and jacket on the plane. Do a quick sink-wash mid-trip for anything you'll re-wear. Once the system is dialled in, a week away fits in the overhead bin without a second thought.
